Perry Wood Primary School is delighted to announce that it has been awarded the Oracy Culture Award from The English Speaking Union.

The award, presented on 8th October 2024, recognises the school’s exceptional commitment to developing its pupils’ oracy skills. Assistant Head Fay Munslow and Head Suzanne Beston attended the ceremony at Dartmouth House in London to receive the accolade.

“We are immensely proud of this prestigious award,” said Fay Munslow. “We, as part of the Griffin Schools Trust, ensure all children experience exceptional opportunities to widen their horizons and develop as individuals.”

The award acknowledges the dedication of the entire staff at Perry Wood in ensuring oracy skills are at the heart of the curriculum. Pupils have had the opportunity to participate in debating competitions, Shakespeare festivals, the annual Griffin Arts Festival and the Hays Literacy Festival, all of which have contributed to their growth in public speaking and communication.

“Oracy skills are essential for our pupils’ future success,” explained Suzanne Beston, Head . “By providing them with these valuable experiences, we are equipping them with the confidence and abilities to thrive in the world beyond the classroom.”
