Griffin Sports Festival 2018!

This week at Nicholas Chamberlaine, we saw the 3rd annual Griffin Sports Festival. This year the festival was comprised of two elements:

Inter-school Competition for twelve year 6/7 students from each school in the Trust, taking place over two days (26th – 27th). Day 1 at Nicholas Chamberlaine School saw students take part in Archery, Boccia, Curling, Handball, Orienteering and Sitting Volleyball. On day two at The Pingles Stadium, in Nuneaton, students competed in a Triathlon.

Today an Intra-School House Competition for all year groups is taking place within each school. To celebrate sport throughout our schools, teams will compete for house points to add to our annual house cup competition.

We have developed strong partnerships we have with the following sports providers, who coordinated the festival sessions:

British Triathlon Trust

Liz Phillips, Shelia Carey – Orienteering

Nuneaton Archers

Premier Sport

The Sports Festival was very lucky to have Nathan Douglas, a British triple jumper who has competed at numerous national and international sporting events, including representing Team GB at the Olympics. Nathan then finished the event with an incredible motivational speech before hosting our very own sports quiz.

The results are in and in third place we had Perry Wood, second place was Stantonbury International and in first… Nicholas Chamberlaine! The team got to take home the sports shield, and each team member received a medal and a certificate for taking part in the games. The pledge award went to Riverley!

We would like to thank every staff member that helped with the smooth running of the event; from NCS site, catering and admin staff to each school’s accompanying adult. Also, Matt Bevan, our designated safeguarding officer, St Johns Ambulance, and the GSF organising committee; Sarah Collings, Rob Heath, Tracey Headley and Rosie Jones thank you for contributing so much of your time towards the festival, I think everyone can agree it was a very special and inspirational day for the children as well as the staff involved.

The Griffin Sports Festival was such a success, and we look forward to next year with even bigger plans being put into place!
